OIC Experts Discussed Muslim Cinema

December 20, 2018, the OIC Intergovernmental Expert Group Meeting (IEGM) held a meeting on promoting cooperation between the member states in cinematographic production to improve positive image of muslims.

The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen has stressed that promoting and encouraging cooperation between the OIC Member States in cinematographic production in the Islamic world “is one of the important aspects of promoting mutual understanding and strengthening solidarity and cooperation among more than 1.6 billion persons that represent the Muslim World.”

The OIC Intergovernmental Expert Group Meeting (IEGM) will come up with the criteria of establishing the OIC Prize and on rewarding the best cinematographic productions to be rewarded during the upcoming FESPACO to take place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in February 2019.

Over the past few years, another platform for promoting dialogue of cultures has established itself – Kazan International Festival of Muslim Cinema. The number of the participants and the quantity of the films are increasing year by year. 40 films from 12 countries were sent for the fist festival, and 780 films from 61 countries were sent for the latest festival.

The event will take place in 2019 at the International economic summit “Russia – Islamic world: KazanSummit”.
